What do you do?
West Editing helps make your paper the best piece of writing it can be. I provide a full range of services from simple proofreading to a full copy edit of your work.
How does that help?
Every piece of writing can always be better. I help you find better. I am the second set of eyes that will impartially evaluate your work. If English is not your native language, I will weed out the awkward sentences and common grammatical mistakes.
What are my options?
Level 1: Simple proofread – I will review your work for typographical errors
Level 2: Editing – I will review your work for typographical errors and style. I will suggest changes in word choice to help ensure every sentence is clear.
Level 3: Formatting – I will check citations, tables, page margins, table of contents, line spacing and font. I will make sure your document conforms to specific academic publication guides.
How does the process work?
I can either work completely electronically or I can mark edits on a hard copy of your work. When working electronically, you send me your document as a .doc or .rtf file. I will use the Track Changes feature to make edits and add comments to the document. I will then send you both the marked document and a clean copy. You can accept or reject the changes as you see fit. If you choose a hard copy, then I will make the same changes on a printed copy of the document. Please know that if you choose this route, it will greatly help you if you understand editor’s marks. I will make short comments in the margins with any longer comments provided separately.
What if I want to talk to you in person?
If you are local to Austin, I can schedule to meet with you to discuss any questions you may have. Please note that these meetings will be reflected on your invoice and charged at the standard rate.
What are your prices?
For anything under 20 pages, I charge a flat rate of $50.
For everything over 20 pages, I charge $40 per hour, rounded to the closest half hour.
For a hard copy, I will print your document at FedEx/Kinkos in black and white and the price will reflect what they charge me, plus a $10 surcharge. If your document has color tables, I will print those pages in color and the invoice will reflect that price. NOTE: limited to Austin area clients ONLY
In person meetings are charged at the standard $40/hour rate. If we schedule a meeting and you miss the meeting, I will charge you for one hour. NOTE: limited to Austin area clients ONLY
At the start of a contract, I will ask for a deposit of half of the anticipated cost. This is nonrefundable. Before I send you the completed edit, I will require the remaining balance to be paid in full.
A note on rush edits: I will take these on a case by case basis. Please note that I do have another job that requires specific hours, so there are times when I simply don’t have enough hours in the day. Also, for a rush job, I will require 75% deposit and will charge more per hour. That charge will depend on how fast a turnaround you require.
How do I pay?
I accept secure credit card payments through PayPal. I also accept money orders. Please note, a money order will slow the process. I do NOT accept personal checks.
A Note About Plagiarism:
While I certainly understand that mistakes happen and you may occasionally forget to cite your sources, I do not accept plagiarism. If I see a single instance, i will simply make a note. If I see that you are regularly claiming other people’s words as your own, I will stop editing and send you an email asking that you send me a new document with all sources cited. If the problem continues, I will terminate the contract immediately without refund. Furthermore, I will contact your department head and report the problem.
